Hi! I’m Imani, and I’m here to help you explore the magic that this amazing world has to offer.
So far I’ve visited 27 countries and 33 states, and I want to take you with me! I write posts about my experiences, challenges I’ve encountered, and lessons learned along the way. I want to provide you with tips for things to do in various destinations and share mistakes that I’ve made for you to avoid. I hope to be able to alleviate some of your concerns and give you the gentle nudge to get out there! Whether that’s exploring the cute little town a short drive away or the country on the other side of the world you’ve always dreamed about.
In April of 2017 at the age of 32 I left my job to spend a few months traveling overseas. I’ve always been an avid traveler, and this felt like the right opportunity to devote some time to seeing the world. I’ve had lots of friends ask me for advice on taking a leap of faith to make a change in life or simply for advice on places to eat in Iceland. I created this space to share those things with you, too.
I’ve always been curious about other places, cultures, and people. Geography was my favorite subject in school, and I have an insatiable appetite for learning languages. Right now I can get by in Portuguese, Spanish, and French. In the past I’ve tried my hand at Russian and Italian, and most recently I’ve tried to pick up some Moroccan Arabic and Berber.
I grew up in Miami, and as a kid I took trips with my family to see relatives around the United States and the US Virgin Islands. My first time out of the country was a middle school trip to Europe organized by my geography teacher and chaperoned by my mother. I knew then that I had to get out and see more of the world. In college I did a summer study abroad in France, which increased my desire to spend more time overseas. I spent the past eight years living in Charlotte, North Carolina before leaving for my big adventure. Now I’m back home in sunny South Florida.
I’m a dog owner to the sweetest, cutest canine, Stella. I’m an avid sports fan, especially of (American) football. I’ve worked in college football and spent six years working in the NFL. Sports have taken me so many places across the US. I adore manatees and am inspired by dolphins. I can’t get enough sushi and am always in search of a delicious slice of pizza.
